Measuring wind speed

We have been continuing our topic about renewable energy. Today we learnt more about the Beaufort scale and an ananometer. We decided to record the wind speed in different areas around the school to see where the best suited place is for a wind turbine. In real life, this is what is done by many renewable companies to determine the best place for their turbines. We recorded our results and will record the wind speed for the next week. 

Dragon's Den

Some of the class travelled to Kirkwall share our enterprise project. We presented to an audience and a panel of judges. The judges were very taken with our idea and even ordered some bags from us! We didn't win the competition but we were delighted to come away with a certificate and £25 towards our enterprise project. Well done everyone in p6/7! 

Big book

Last week we all worked together through the classes to create a big book. We were tasked with creating the ending of the story. We put all the parts of the story together, it worked really well! We then read the story to the rest of the school in the library. The other classes were keen to see what happened in the end! The book is available in the library for anyone to read. :)

Rugby

Last week, we started our rugby sessions outdoors. We focussed on the skills on passing and working as part of a team. It was a beautiful day, we hope it continues! 

Mardi Gras

We have been learning more about Mardi Gras over the past few weeks. We created masks which represent some of the key colours of the carnival. We are very lucky to have a carnival costume on display in class too! Next week Mr Brown from Stromness Academy is coming to do a session with the samba drums in music.
