As part of our topic, we have been learning about the solar system and the different planets. We were set a research challenge today. In our small groups we found out interesting facts about each planet. We were researching how far away each planet was from the sun, the temperatures on the planets as well as other interesting facts. We only had 25 minutes to carry out are research - we all kept to the time! Everyone worked well in their groups too with everyone having a role to do. On Thursday this week we are going to plan ways to present the information we found out.

Puppet Workshop
Today we had a visit from a puppet workshop. We learned about different types of puppets and we all had a shot at being ventriloquists - it was quite tricky speaking without moving our mouths! We all listened really well to instructions and we even presented a scripted puppet show.
We tried out different voices for our puppets.
We sometimes forgot to move the puppets mouth when speaking - we got the hang of it after a while!
We rehearsed our parts for the puppet show.

Building and testing our tidal device
At the end of last week, some of us began building the tidal device. We got some help with this outwith school which we were very grateful for.
On Monday we went to Scot Renewables to test the tidal device in the tidal test tank with the strong currents. Laurence at Scot Renewables was very helpful and was very impressed with the design the children came up with. He provided us with some feedback about our device and improvements which could be made to further improve the design of the device.

We all learned about the test tank and some of the devices currently being tested.
We noted down the improvements for our device - we enjoyed the sunshine too!
P7 Nethybridge Trip!
We all had a fantastic time away in Nethybridge at the start of the term. Everyone challenged themselves and overcame some fears - even Miss Grieve and Mrs Rendall did too!!
Here is a photo of the final morning in Nethybridge with the pupils from Evie, Stenness, Orphir and North Walls. :-)

Leadership skills
In small groups, we have been planning and designing PE games. In each group, we created a warm up activity, main activity and a cool down. We had to write detailed instructions and create a list of resources required for our activities. We then thought of feedback we would like to receive from our peers once we had taught the PE activities.
Warm up.
Team game. Each team had clear the obstacle course in the quickest time!
Zumba cool down
We all gave different parts of the activities a rating out of 10 and wrote a wish for any improvements. We all found this useful.
Eco-house challenge
As part of the renewable energy topic, the children were set the challenge of planning and creating an eco-house in groups. The criteria involved for the eco-houses including renewable energy sources as well as the house being sustainable. Here are some photos of the initial planning stages...

World Book Day
For World Book Day today, we went to the nursery to read stories to the younger children. We paired up and found a quiet area to read our stories - we all enjoyed reading or listening to the stories.
We found different spaces to read around the nursery.
Andrew enjoyed reading to his peedie sister, Rebecca.
We enjoyed reading in the igloo!
Some of us read in larger groups too.
The nursery children were very good listeners!
We hope to return to the nursery some time soon!
