Reading CAFE

With Mrs Rendall, we were developing our reading comprehension skills and learning to spell words accurately. Some of us played a guessing game where we had to ask questions about the word to help us figure out what the word was. Another group played boggle and aimed to find the longest word. We also played reading comprehension games and answered questions from the reading comprehension cards. 

Thermal conductivity

We carried out a practical investigation, learning about thermal insulation. We planned our experiment and discussed how to make it a fair test and wrote our predictions. We chose materials to insulate beakers of warm water. We placed a thermometer in each beaker and recorded the temperature every two minutes. We tested to see if our predictions were right!

Improper fractions and mixed numbers

We have been learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions. We have further developed our understanding how to convert to a mixed number, we drew some diagrams to help us too. Some of us have played some games to help us with this and we have also shared our knowledge and understanding with another peer where we made up questions for them to answer.

Fractions

We started our new topic in maths this week. Yesterday we brainstormed in our groups and shared what we know already about fractions. This was useful and it jogged our memories too!
Some of us worked with Mrs Rendall today where we were learning about equivalent fractions. We worked together in small groups to find the common factor.
Another group were learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions. We helped each other to solve the problems too and are all feeling more confident with mixed number and improper fractions. 

Religious Festivals - Holi Festival of Colour

We have been learning about religious festivals this term. We have recently been learning about the Hindu Holi Festival. We carried out research in our groups and created an eye-catching poster. We had specific criteria to follow. We are now planning to present our posters to the rest of the class this week.

Soluble and insoluble materials

We recently tested soluble and insoluble materials. We planned the experiment in our groups and discussed how we were going to make it a fair test. We made predictions about whether we thought the different materials would dissolve or not dissolve or form a new substance.
