Static Electricity

This week we have been learning about static electricity. We did some research and carried out experiments. In small groups we discussed what would happen if we held a balloon with static electricity over salt and pepper. We all made different predictions and discussed what happened.
 We charged the balloons first....

... we then watched what happened!

Electricity topic - learning about lightning

This week we shared our knowledge of electricity with our peers. We then discussed what we would like to learn and created some questions.
In pairs, we researched lightning - we were researching what it was and how it worked. We all found interesting facts about lightning too.
We were set a challenge to present the information we researched in our pairs. We all thought about making our posters eye - catching, bold, colourful and included pictures with our research information.

We then created developed our presenting skills by sharing our posters with the whole class. We created a success criteria which included good volume, using eye - contact, appropriate pace and speaking clearly. Miss Grieve then gave feedback about our presenting skills. :)

We were very lucky on Tuesday to watch a performance of talented African drummers. We then participated in a workshop where we all played the drums and learned an African dance. We all enjoyed ourselves and were very energetic!
Here are some pictures and videos from the workshop...

We all joined in with the drumming performance!

Respiratory System - Presenting our research posters

Our topic this term is the Human Body. We have been learning about the respiratory system. In small groups, we researched the respiratory system and presented our research on a poster. Our criteria stated we must have an interesting title, illustrations, facts and our posters must be attractively presented. We all successfully met the criteria!
We all peer assessed each other on our presenting skills. We were looking for good volumes, using eye-contact, speaking clearly and speaking at an appropriate pace. We all enjoyed peer assessing each other and giving feedback. :-)

Science Festival Workshop

During the science festival, we participated in a car workshop. We learned about the fastest car on earth and how it works. We were then set the challenge to build and create our own cars. We even had a race to see which car moved the quickest. We altered our design to improve our cars too!
