We have been very lucky to have two visits over the past few weeks from some of the Historic Scotland rangers. Sandra Miller came in and spoke about archaeology in Orkney. We looked at some of the sites and enjoyed some hands on archaeology looking and learning about some artefacts. We are looking forward to the end of the month where we will be visiting the Broch of Gurness and The Cairns in St Margarets Hope.

Developing leadership skills - P.E
In small groups, the children planned a P.E. activity to teach to the rest of the class. The children planned the resources they required, a warm up activity and a cool down. The children planned different groupings and also considered the timings for each activity. At the end of the P.E. session, the children were given feedback about their communication and organisation of the activity. Well done everyone - a variety of skills being developed!
Maeshowe research
We have been learning about some of the Neolithic sites in Orkney. We recently undertook some research about Maeshowe, we worked well together in our small groups. We all found out interesting facts and used these to create a fact file.

Generation Science
This week, we participated in a workshop where we learned about fossil fuels, particularly oil. We worked in small groups and used some problem solving skills. We were all given a role and worked well in our groups to build a model.

Runic Names
We have been learning about Maeshowe and runic writing. We wrote messages in runic writing and we all attempted to write our names in runes too!
Archaeology - Ring of Brodgar
We have been learning about archaeology in our local area. The other week, we learnt about blending colours where we made sunset pictures of the Ring of Brodgar. They all look fantastic!
