Reading Cafe

Story writing
In small groups, we were planning stories with a beginning, middle and end which included a climax. We chose a prop at random and we were set 10 minutes to create a story in our groups. We then all shared our stories with everyone. We are now planning to use our story ideas for our writing next week.
Raft Race Challenge
This term we are developing our team working skills. On Monday this week, we worked in small groups and used our problem solving skills. We used two mats as rafts and we had to transport everyone across the river. However, there were only 3 people allowed on the raft at one time and no one could be left on their own at either side of the river. We all used good communication skills too!
Static Electricity
This week we have been learning about static electricity. We did some research and carried out experiments. In small groups we discussed what would happen if we held a balloon with static electricity over salt and pepper. We all made different predictions and discussed what happened.

Electricity topic - learning about lightning
This week we shared our knowledge of electricity with our peers. We then discussed what we would like to learn and created some questions.
In pairs, we researched lightning - we were researching what it was and how it worked. We all found interesting facts about lightning too.
We were set a challenge to present the information we researched in our pairs. We all thought about making our posters eye - catching, bold, colourful and included pictures with our research information.
We then created developed our presenting skills by sharing our posters with the whole class. We created a success criteria which included good volume, using eye - contact, appropriate pace and speaking clearly. Miss Grieve then gave feedback about our presenting skills. :)
