Transition day

Today the primary 4's and 5's from Mrs Scott's class joined the p5/6/7 class. The transition morning consisted of the children getting to know each other more and working in small groups. We all participated in a morning check in where we used describing words to go with our name. We then played a mental maths countdown game where we had to reach a target number. After music we were set the challenge of designing and innovative and imaginative pencil case. We played dragon's den where we had to sell our pencil cases and describe the imaginary features on them. Everyone came up with excellent ideas!

Measuring areas

We have been learning about lengths and areas recently. This week we have been estimating and measuring areas in and around the school. We all did accurate estimations and checked these by measuring areas in small groups. We were focusing on squares and rectangles this week. We were learning to multiply the breadth and the length together to find squared centimetres and metres.

P6 Assembly - Sharing experiences from Hoy

Last Friday, the primary 6's shared their experiences from their days in Hoy. There were a range of photos from the trip where the primary 6's explained the activities and routines. The P6's shared their reflective Hoy trip poems they created in class to the rest of the school. Everyone spoke very clearly and at an appropriate pace.

Blind fold challenge!

The other week, we went outdoors to develop our team skills and communication skills. We had to guide each other over ropes blind folded. We used excellent communication skills and were clear with our directions. We all developed our confidence and put trust in our peers. Well done everyone!

P6's Hoy Trip

The primary 6 children went to Hoy on Monday this week until Wednesday evening. We all thoroughly enjoyed our trip and overall the weather was pretty good! We all participated and challenged ourselves in activities. Some of us overcame some fears and developed resilience. Here are some photos from our trip.

Some pictures on the boat over on Monday. We all went up to meet the captain on the boat and had a go at steering, it was great fun!

When we arrived at the Hoy centre, we unpacked in our rooms and changed into wet suits and wore equipment for coasteering, it took some people longer than others to put the wet suits on!!

The next morning we were up early to make our packed lunches for the day. We had breakfast and got ready for the canoeing activity.

Group pictures before we set off.

Unloading the canoes - great team work!

We watched how to make a raft with the two canoes and then we made rafts in teams. We had to tie lots of knots!

 And we're off....
... it was flat calm and we all worked well together in the canoes.
 We stopped off for lunch...

... we had a challenge to build the tallest Cairn!
Some of us decided to jump in too!

Our final activity was gorge walking.

We used ropes to help us down tricky parts of the gorge.

We reached the beach and stopped off here for lunch. We then all explored a cave which we all went through - it was very dark!!

We had some company at lunch time too!

In pairs, we then had to find our way back up the gorge to a meeting point, we communicated well in our pairs and helped each other.

A few group photos before we left for the boat. :-)
